Free 14-Hour Real Estate CE for Port Charlotte, FL Agents
Licensed in Port Charlotte or anywhere in Charlotte County? You can complete the 14 hours of continuing education Florida requires at renewal online, at your own pace, and at no cost. The course is provided by Sunstate Real Estate School and sponsored by DCA Florida Homes, a new-construction builder in North Port and Port Charlotte, so local agents can renew without paying for CE.
Who this course is for
Florida sales associates and brokers who live or work in Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood, Rotonda West, North Port and the rest of Charlotte County and are past their first renewal. If you hold an active Florida real estate license and your next renewal requires 14 hours of continuing education, this course is built for you. Agents from other counties are welcome too; the course is online and the requirements are the same statewide.
What Florida requires at renewal
After your first renewal, Florida requires 14 hours of continuing education every two-year license cycle. Those 14 hours are made up of 3 hours of Core Law, 3 hours of Ethics and Business Practices, and 8 hours of specialty education. This course covers all 14 hours in one place, so you do not have to piece together separate courses from different providers.
- 3 hours of Core Law
- 3 hours of Ethics and Business Practices
- 8 hours of specialty education
Renewal deadlines to watch
Florida real estate licenses expire on either March 31 or September 30, depending on when you were first licensed. Your CE must be completed and reported before your expiration date. A good habit is to finish your hours at least a few weeks early so there is time for your completion to post before the deadline, especially in the busy weeks right before March 31 and September 30.
First renewal? Post-licensing comes first
If you are approaching your first renewal, the 14-hour CE course is not what you need yet. New sales associates complete 45 hours of post-licensing education before their first renewal, and new brokers complete 60 hours. Once your first renewal is behind you, the 14-hour CE requirement applies to each renewal after that. Read more about the difference in post-licensing vs CE.
How the free course works
Create your account, enroll in the course, and work through the units online on your phone, tablet or computer. Each unit ends with a short quiz, and the course finishes with a final exam. When you pass, you receive a certificate of completion. You can stop and come back whenever you like; your progress is saved.
Why Port Charlotte agents take it now
Charlotte County agents are busy with resale, relocation and new-construction buyers, and renewal can sneak up in the middle of a closing. Taking a free, self-paced course means you can finish your hours between showings without spending money or a full weekend in a classroom. The course is sponsored by DCA Florida Homes, which builds new homes in Port Charlotte and North Port, because local agents are the people who help buyers find those homes.
Checking your CE hours
You can check your license status and expiration date through the Florida DBPR online licensing portal. If you are unsure whether you need post-licensing or continuing education, or which cycle you are in, check your record there before you enroll.
