Free 14-Hour Real Estate CE for Sarasota, FL Agents

The City of Sarasota is the county seat of Sarasota County and one of the busiest real estate markets on Florida's Gulf Coast. Agents here sell downtown condos and Rosemary District lofts, single-family homes in neighborhoods like Laurel Park and Southside Village, and island properties on Lido Key and St. Armands, often in the same month. However varied your listings are, renewing your Florida license comes down to the same requirement every agent in the state faces: 14 hours of approved continuing education every two years. This free online course, provided by Sunstate Real Estate School and sponsored by DCA Florida Homes, lets you finish all 14 hours at your own pace, between showings and closings.

What Sarasota agents need to renew

After your first renewal, Florida requires 14 hours of continuing education in each two-year license cycle: 3 hours of Florida Core Law, 3 hours of Real Estate Business Ethics, and 8 hours of specialty education. Licenses renew on March 31 or September 30, depending on when you were first licensed, and your renewal date is printed on your license. Brokers and sales associates have the same 14-hour CE requirement.

First renewal? That's post-licensing, not CE

If you have not renewed yet, your first cycle requires post-licensing education instead of the 14-hour CE: 45 hours for sales associates and 60 hours for brokers. This course covers the 14-hour CE requirement for subsequent renewals.

How the free course works

The course has 14 units. Each unit includes a PDF textbook, an audio lecture and a quiz, and you need 80% to pass each quiz. When the units are done, you take a 30-question final exam; 80% passes and retakes are unlimited. Sunstate Real Estate School (Provider # ZH1002805) is the approved provider and reports your completion to the DBPR. It's 100% online, so you can work from a downtown office, a coffee shop on Main Street or home, and stop and resume anytime.

Check your hours with the DBPR

Before your renewal date, log in to your account at myfloridalicense.com, click your license number and choose View Continuing Education. Anything in the shortfall column is still needed. Allow time for the provider to report your completion before your deadline.

Why a builder sponsors free CE

DCA Florida Homes builds new single-family homes in North Port and Port Charlotte, a short drive south of Sarasota. Many Sarasota buyers compare city prices with newer homes on larger lots further south, and DCA sponsors this course to support the local agents who represent those buyers. The course content is independent of the sponsor and there is no obligation.
